Ability on One Occasion

📌 When we talk about achieving something on a specific occasion in the past, we use was/were able to (= had the ability to) and managed to (= succeeded in doing something difficult).
(Quand on parle d’avoir réussi quelque chose à une occasion précise dans le passé, on utilise was/were able to (= avoir la capacité de) et managed to (= réussir à faire quelque chose de difficile).)

→ Le cambrioleur a pu entrer par la fenêtre de la salle de bain.

managed to  The burglar managed to get in through the bathroom window even though it was locked.

→ Le cambrioleur a réussi à entrer par la fenêtre de la salle de bain même si elle était verrouillée.
