We use “there is” for singular nouns and “there are” for plural nouns.
On utilise « there is » pour les noms au singulier et « there are » pour les noms au pluriel.

There is a restaurant in the station.
→ Il y a un restaurant dans la gare.
There are two cafés in the shopping centre.
→ Il y a deux cafés dans le centre commercial.
