1 Understanding Phrasal Verbs

📌 Phrasal verbs consist of a main verb plus one or two particles (prepositions or adverbs). The particles change or add to the verb’s meaning.

Les verbes à particule sont formés d’un verbe principal et d’une ou deux particules (prépositions ou adverbes). Ces particules modifient ou complètent le sens du verbe.

✓ My cat wakes me up every morning.

→ Mon chat me réveille tous les matins.

✓ I can’t put up with this noise any longer.

2 Separable Phrasal Verbs

📌 These take a direct object. The object can go BETWEEN or AFTER the verb and particle. CRUCIAL: With pronouns (me, it, them), it MUST go between.

3 Inseparable Phrasal Verbs

📌 These CANNOT be separated. The verb and particle must stay together. This includes intransitive verbs (no object) and verbs where the particle is a preposition.

Ces verbes ne peuvent PAS être séparés. Le verbe et la particule doivent rester ensemble. Cela inclut les verbes intransitifs (sans objet) et ceux dont la particule est une préposition.

✅ Preposition Rule: When the particle is a preposition (e.g., up with, up to), the object MUST follow it.
